Fondamenta · website studio
You have ten seconds. Then your customer is gone.
They judge you, they wait, they decide. If the site does not hold, they go back to Google and open a competitor's.
The first ten seconds of a visit
- 50 ms the first glance has already decided
- 3 seconds if it has not loaded yet, half of them are gone
- 10 seconds if they have not understood what you do, they leave
Ten seconds have just passed while you were reading. On your site, that person was already out.
The problem
Three tests. Nobody tells you about them
No studio invented them: universities and search engines have been measuring them for twenty years. A site that fails one of them loses people who will not come back.
-
The first glance
In fifty milliseconds, before reading a single word, whoever arrives has already decided whether your site inspires trust. That verdict then sticks: it changes how they read everything else.
Lindgaard and others, Behaviour & Information Technology, 2006
-
The loading
More than half of mobile visits leave if the page takes over three seconds to open. These are not customers lost on price or to a competitor: they leave before they even see you.
Google, The Need for Mobile Speed, 2016
-
The decision
The first ten seconds are where everything is decided: that is when most people leave. To keep someone, they have to understand straight away what you do and why you are worth it; if the answer sits further down, they will never read it.
Nielsen Norman Group, 2011
A site built properly passes all three without anyone noticing. A site born from the graphics fails at least two. Nobody comes and tells you.
The method
We build the other way round
These tests are passed only if the site is built in the order of a building site, with the facade last. Four steps, from the ground up: watch.
-
Survey
You look at the ground before you build: what holds, what has to be redone.
-
Design
Structure and words before the graphics: what each page says, and to whom.
-
Site work
Block by block: every step is measured, never estimated.
-
Handover
The facade comes last, on foundations that hold it up.
This is how we build every site. This one included.
The survey
Find out which test yours fails
On the first call we do not lecture you: we open your site and measure it in front of you. How long it takes to load on a phone, what comes across in the first ten seconds, which text cannot be read and which buttons escape your finger. You leave knowing what holds, what gives way and where to start.
Services
Three ways of working together
-
Rebuilds and restyling
The site is there, but it shows its age or brings no results. We keep what works and rebuild what gives way, without losing content, addresses or positions on Google.
-
Sites built to measure
When you start from nothing. It is built in the order you have just seen: first what the site has to say and to whom, then the facade. The result looks like your work, not like a filled-in template.
-
Continuous maintenance
A published site is not a finished site. Regular checks, updates and small changes as your work changes: you no longer have to think about it.
What it costs
A clear quote, before we start
We do not estimate the price by eye: it comes out of the survey we do together on the call. Afterwards you get a written quote, with times, costs and what is included. You decide with everything in front of you. Every site is different: that is why there is no price list.
We take on few projects at a time, from the first call to publication.

Let's talk
Write us a couple of lines about the site you have, or about the one you would like in its place. We set half an hour on the phone: we tell you what we would do and at what price. We answer within one working day, usually sooner.
